Name: Akito Sohma
Door: Door Pass
(if this doesn't work,  Left Door)

Canon: Fruits Basket
Canon Point: Season 3 | Episode 7 (shortly after Ren attempts to assault Akito with a knife)

Age: 21
Appearance: Akito stands at 5'5", has pitch dark eyes and hair, and typically wears either kimonos, suits, or several layers of clothes intended for men. She is very petite and slender, and has a delicate appearance to her. Image can be found here.

History: Here
An important note regarding her history: Akito was born as a female, but was raised as a male from the time of her birth. She presents herself as such, from binding her feminine figure, wearing clothes that cover her from head to toe, and speaking/acting in a very masculine tone to others outside of the members of the Zodiac. Only the four oldest members of the Zodiac know of her true gender. It is shown that she does not correct others for assuming she is a man, and prefers to be referred to as such.

TW: Mentions of Suicide, Abuse, NSFW topics

Personality:

Positive Trait: Straightforward

Despite having an overwhelming amount of flaws and negative traits, the one thing shown about Akito that could be considered a positive trait is how straightforward she is. Although she is shown to be abusive, to say cruel and terrible things, unlike Shigure, she does not have grand schemes or ulterior motives. She lays her cards on the table and says what she is thinking, what her plan is, and what she will do if she is not obeyed. She also is quick to relent and accept when a member of her family she is berating, gives into her.

For example: In season 2, episode 9, she summons Kyo during their vacation to see her. She does not often see Kyo, the cat of the Zodiac due both the old tale where the cat did not show up to God's banquet, therefore being cursed and shamed for centuries, and because every person possessed by the spirit of the cat, turns into a grotesque, smelly monster. It is tradition in the Sohma family to lock up the cat [despite the fact that they all are shown to wear a bracelet that keeps them from turning into this monster] once they become an adult. In this meeting with Kyo, she summoned him for the first time in years to speak with her. She directly asks him about their bet, and how he was progressing with it. In a fit of rage during their previous meeting, Kyo had assaulted Akito and made a bet with her that if he can beat the rat of the Zodiac, Yuki, in a fight before he graduated high school, we will be allowed to be a proper member of the Sohma family and not be locked up.

Her straightforwardness comes out during this meeting, where she essentially tells him he will never beat Yuki, and even if he did, he would never be loved or deserve love, due to the fact that his mother committed suicide. Although the series doesn't quite confirm why, it is hinted that it is because of Kyo and his curse, a fact that Akito uses to torment and verbally abuse Kyo with. In the meeting, Kyo eventually relents to Akito's words, and agrees with her that he will never be truly loved [in order to protect his love interest Tohru]. In an interesting turn of events, instead of continuing to argue with him, she actually apologizes for 'jumping to conclusions' and even compliments him, saying 'nice to see you acting sensible for once.'

Her goals and intentions towards the members of the Zodiac and she shows this several times throughout the series. She openly tells them what her plans are for the future, where they stands with her, and what she will do if they disobey. There is some manipulation on her end in regards to the things she does to hurt them further- for example she allows Tohru Honda to stay at Shigure's residence to bring some comfort to the rat and cat of the Zodiac, as her intent is to hurt them further when she takes away the girl from them. However, this is the extent of the manipulation/mind games that she has shown.

Negative Trait: Abusive

The relationship she has with most of the members of the Zodiac is highly abusive whether physical, emotional, mental, or verbal. As the head of the Sohma clan, a large network of families with the same surname, there is vast generational wealth and most of the family reports to Akito regardless of being on the 'inside' [Zodiac members] or on the 'outside'. Due to this large power imbalance and the fact that most of the household [inside or outside] follows Akito without question, she has been seen doing the following forms of abuse [often with the support of maids who are in debt to the family or want to be on Akito's good side]:

  • physical abuse
  • domestic violence
  • psychological/emotional abuse
  • financial abuse (all members of the Sohma who happen to give birth to or care for a child/person of the Zodiac are rewarded financially, incentivizing them to allow Akito to do as she pleases with them i.e. Yuki Sohma as an example)
  • discriminatory abuse (towards the women of the Zodiac, saying to Izusu "you're just here to even out the numbers" this is expanded on later).
  • neglect/acts of omission (as punishment to Izusu for trying to break the curse/steal Akito's box, she has the girl locked away, cutting her hair off and depriving her of food/sunlight/proper care)
Akito often portrays herself as a victim in these circumstances, or rather insinuates that the other person asked for it. She views no comradery in others, and when confronted by her actions, she will either gaslight the individual, or say she was forced to do it. In one instance when a member of the Sohma family tried to reason with her, saying that she was angry and should leave, she punished them for trying to 'understand her', and 'trying to get to know her'. She makes it clear throughout the series that the only way to curb her abuse is to either submit, ask for forgiveness, or ride it out. To Akito, she does not view this behavior as abusive, but rather states that she does it out of love, generosity, and kindness. To her, she does these things to keep the members submitted fully to her and to believe that the only real love they will ever have is with her as she understands their curse and is able to embrace them without them transforming.

Akito's relationship with the other Sohma's, various depending on on their gender, proximity, and how she feels about them personally. Here is a brief breakdown of those she has abused/has a generally negative relationship with (but isn't quite close to):

· Momiji Sohma:
Akito isn't shown interacting with him much, until the Beach vacation arc. She is on her way back home but decided to stop by the residence where most of the Sohma family is at [including Tohru]. She punches him in the face for refusing to get Tohru Honda for him. Momiji's lack of a reaction indicates that he is used to her physical violence with him.

Towards the end of the series, Momiji's curse breaks next and he openly rejects when Akito comes to beg him to stay, but promises not to tell anyone that his curse broke. He eventually abandons her as there is nothing binding him to her.

· Hatori Sohma:
"When I'm in a rage, everything seems to vanish. Hatori's eye was one causality." Akito to Izusu

Hatori is another victim of Akito, but he seems to be neutral in regards to her. He is the dragon [seahorse] of the Zodiac, a doctor, and also has the ability to erase people's memories through hypnosis. As such, he is often used by Akito to control outsiders/wipe their memories if they happen to see the family secret. As he is a kind person, he feels an immense amount of guilt for the people he has had to wipe their memories.

He fell in love with and became engaged with a member of the clan, asking Akito for permission to marry her. As Akito views all members of the Zodiac as her property and all women as competition, she threw a tantrum and broke the mirror in her room. With a broken shard of glass, she stabbed Hatori in his left eye, leaving him permanently disabled as punishment for his betrayal. It is unknown why she specifically attacked Hatori instead of his fiancée, as she is shown to have attacked the women in this scenario in the past, however it was possible she did to get his partner to feel guilty as she immediately blames her for the attack. Unfortunately it did work, and the two ended up breaking up with Hatori having to wipe her mind of their relationship completely.

Despite this, he doesn't show any anger or resentment towards Akito, preferring to look to the future on a positive note and to work hard to protect others from the curse. As for Akito, the few times she is shown speaking/interacting with him, she has openly spoken of him as a slave rather than a family member. An example of this was when she was feeling sick, and asked Shigure to call for Hatori. Shigure scolded her, telling her that she shouldn't rely on him so much. In response to this, she said 'why not? he lives and breathes for me, he only exists for me.' Another interaction shown between them is later on in season 2 during the 'beach vacation arc' where he comes to check up on her, and she openly gives him physical affection, even sitting on his lap. Another scene between the two shows how she keeps him isolated, particularly against her mother. She caught her mother trying to speak to Hatori, and commanded to the both that they were not allowed to speak.

Essentially, Akito just views him as another member of the Zodiac that obeys her without pushback, and that he only lives to serve her.

· Kyo Sohma:
Akito is shown to hold a tenuous and strained relationship with Kyo, and despite pretending and showing him some level of her 'love', she secretly detests him and is eager to lock him up for the rest of his life, once he graduates from High School. As the cat of the Zodiac, she excludes him from most events (except the family's New Years gathering), and has only really ever spoken to him two or three times directly. The first time, they make a bet that if Kyo is able to beat Yuki in a fight before he graduates high school, he will be allowed to join the Sohma family properly, and not spend the rest of his life locked up. The second time Akito willingly meets with him, is to essentially re-affirm his place in the Zodiac hierarchy and to emotionally torment him. She asks about the wager they made, taunting him and stating he will never be able to beat the rat, and that he was 'made to be inferior'.

She views him as a disgusting creature, unworthy of love, something she says to other characters such as Yuki. She shows this by excessively washing her hands after their interaction, desperate to rid of herself of his 'filth'. She often reminds him and others that he was responsible for his mother's suicide and that the one who should have died should have been him. Her hatred of Kyo comes from two important things: in the old Zodiac tale, the cat was tricked by the rat and did not show up to banquet the God was holding, therefore insulting the God and cursing the cat for eternity. Additionally, Kyo's true form is a large monster that reeks of sewage and comes to life if Kyo removes his protective bracelet.

Despite her hatred of him, in their final meeting, Akito shows the love she has for all members of the Zodiac, saying that he won't be lonely when he is locked up, and that she will visit him often. Whether she truly feels this, or it is a reflection of the spirit of the God in her, is unknown, but given her actions after the meeting, it seems she says this out of some sense of obligation.

Akito also uses this meeting to remind Kyo that no one could ever love him, and that he is unworthy of love. In an effort to protect his love interest, Tohru, he agrees with Akito and leaves. Kyo is perhaps one of the few Sohma family members that has openly laid their hands on Akito in a more aggressive manner without extreme punishment.

· Hatsuharu Sohma:
Hatsuharu is unaware of what happened to Izusu for a good portion of the series, keeping a peaceful but distant relationship with Akito. In the few moments they were shown together, Akito is shown giving him affection and resting on him. She views him as a possession and someone she can do whatever she wants with, based on the retaliation she gives to his love interest, Izusu.

When the two finally have a more deeper interaction, it comes at the heels of Hatsuharu finding out what Akito did to Izusu. In this instance, Akito gaslights him as much as possible, claiming she did nothing and is unaware of what happened. She laughs at his accusations, doing her best to change the topic. Hatsuharu calls out Akito on her misogyny, and asks if she [assuming Akito is male], had intentions on killing her. When Akito makes it clear she doesn't care what happens to her, Hatsuharu threatens assaults her, being one of the few characters in the series to challenge Akito despite the bond.

· Ritsu Sohma:
Akito is not really shown to have a relationship with Ritsu, but being the monkey of the Zodiac, she shares she same thoughts as others in the Sohma family- that Ritsu is useless, an idiot, and worthless. He is shown to have also dreamt of Akito's birth, making him slightly older than her, but he was too young to truly remember.

· Ayame Sohma:
Despite being one of the oldest members of the Zodiac, Akito is shown to have zero relationship with Ayame. She actively avoids him and does not want to be around him. As for Ayame, he seems to hold no ill will towards Akito as he has not been a victim of her verbal or physical abuse, but he does seem to be aware of what she is capable of. He hides the relationship he has with his shop assistant and actively avoids mentioning what kind of relationship they have. Despite this, when speaking with Hatori about his relationship and how it ended, he seemed to avoid blaming Akito for why that happened.

· Hiro Sohma:
Akito has not had much interactions with Hiro, outside of when he confessed his feelings for Kisa and he saw Akito pushing Izusu out of a window. He is a victim of Akito in the sense that she retaliated by hurting the one he loved.

Negative Trait: Misogyny

Stemming from the toxic relationship she has with her mother, and the fact that she lives her life as a man, Akito has shown disdain for her own gender several times throughout the series. She views women as deceptive, cunning, people not worthy of her love or attention, traitors, brazen, stupid. In addition, she views her own womanhood as a burden and only uses it as a tool to get men's attention [specifically the Zodiac men]. To her, her femininity is a weakness and it could explain why she embraces being a man despite it being forced on her by her mother.

One relationship that isn't shown much in the series, but also serves as fuel for Akito's possessiveness and misogyny, is that of the head maid. The head maid is shown often taking Akito's side [as she has a deep long seated hatred of Ren] and is shown scolding members of the Zodiac for not obeying her, and reinforces everything Akito has said about them [they belong to her, they're born to serve her, etc]. This maid has also said misogynistic things about Ren to others, calling her easy and referring to her in demeaning ways. This maid was also the one who comforted Akito when Akira died, saying that Akira loved her the most and that she shouldn't believe otherwise. She gave her an empty box, implying that Akira's soul/ashes were in there and that he always belonged to Akito.

She is shown frequently commenting and putting down other women's appearances, specifically Tohru's. Additionally, Akito has openly stated that she does not trust women, going as far as violently attacking the female members of the Zodiac for simply being female. She simply does not have a relationship with any of the female members (or any women for that matter), opting to keep her obsessions towards the men of the Zodiac. Simply put, she views women as rivals who exist to take attention away from her.

Here is a breakdown of her relationship with the other women in the series that shows how misogynistic she is:

· Ren Sohma :
Akito's toxic relationship with her mother stems from the day she was conceived. Ren was a low level maid of the Sohma household and eventually became a personal maid to Akira Sohma, the head of the household. Sensing his loneliness, and becoming obsessed with him, they fell in love and became married. Not much of a background is given in regards to whether Ren truly loved him or just his power/status, but it was clear she was obsessed with him and viewed all women as competition, including her own daughter. When she became pregnant with Akito, and discovered the gender of the future God, she demanded the child be raised a boy or else she would get an abortion. This request came due to Ren seeing a female daughter as a competitor to Akira's love, and despite the man assuring her he would always love her first, she refused to raise, love, or hold Akito at all. From the moment she was born, Ren spook poorly of her daughter. This left Akira with the responsibility of raising Akito solely as a boy, and establishing the idea that women are not sources of love, in Akito's mind.

When Akira began to die before Akito, he told her he would always be with her and that she had a divine purpose. He also lamented that he wanted Akito to be a companion to Ren so she wouldn't be alone without him, making it clear that his goal was to never divide the two in such a way. Upon hearing this, and realizing that his final words were not to her, but to Akito, Ren stormed the room in anger. When the head maid advised Ren that Akito was the new family head, at the tender age of eight or so, she told Akito she was nothing, a toy for Akira to pass the time with, and that she was useless and that no one wanted or needed her. In defiance, Akito told her mother the one no one needed was her.

Despite the two barely seeing each other in present day, with Ren being forced to live in solitude in the estate with a single maid [who is suppose to keep an eye on her/keep her from leaving her room], Ren still holds a deep hatred for her daughter and often tries to get under her skin. She often verbally abuses Akito whenever possible, and the two are not able to be in the same vicinity without exploding into an argument. Ren often taunts Akito whenever a member of the Zodiac disobeys her or leaves her (Shigure leaving and Yuki leaving), and Akito uses her mother's promiscuity with Shigure against her.

One large plot point in the series towards the start of season 3, comes after a large and violent argument between Akito and Ren. Akito catches Ren trying to spend time with Hatori, and begins to verbally assault her mother. When Ren refuses to back down, insulting the bonds she has with the Zodiac members, Akito violently chokes her and slams her through several doors and rooms until she pushes her out into the patio. The two get into a heated argument about how Ren will always have a strong bond with Akira, and how when she dies she will go to Heaven and he will be waiting for her. Here we see a side of Akito that hasn't been shown; when the argument ends and Ren is taken away, Akito breaks down like a child and clearly displays how much she wished she had a mother that wasn't so mean to her. Due to this argument, Ren proceeds to use Izusu, desperate for a cure to end the curse. She tells the girl to steal a box Akito holds dear from her room- the main purpose of this was to further her feud with Akito, and to get back what is rightfully hers. She believes the box holds both Akira's spirit and ashes, and she believes the Zodiac members should thank her for giving birth to their precious God.

At some point towards the end of the series, Ren threatens her daughter with a knife to give her the box (which ended up being empty).

It is clear that the hatred Ren has for Akito, based from misogyny and viewing her daughter as competition, has led Akito to behave the same way towards other women. She seems to project her distrust, hatred, and malevolence towards her mother onto other women. Her issues with her own sexuality, gender, and how she presents herself to the world also stems from this toxic relationship. As Akira was the one who raised Akito and cared her exclusively, it becomes clear why Akito sides with men more than women.

· Tohru Honda:

Although at this point in the series Akito has had very little direct interactions with Tohru, the few interactions we've seen, seem to reaffirm her hatred of other women. There are two instances in which the two have been seen and Akito's actions during and after the meeting are highly misogynistic.
  • The first time Akito meets Tohru is a few months after the girl moves into Shigure's home. She visits the school she is attending and introduces herself. While the interaction seems normal, if not strained, Tohru pushes Akito away from Yuki, causing Akito to withdraw from the interaction. Once she is driving away with Shigure, she berates Tohru's appearance from a sexist point of view. She openly calls her absurdly ugly, plain, stupid, and that she has nothing to fear from a pathetic girl like her.
  •  The next time Akito meets Tohru, she becomes aware or suspects that Tohru's goal is to break the Sohma curse/she thinks she saved Yuki and Kyo. As a result, she seeks her out to tell her that she is no one special, and that Kyo will be locked away. In this encounter, she physically assaults Tohru when she defies Akito, and leaves her with an injury to her face. It is insinuated in this meeting that Akito is threatened by Tohru's femineity and how the other members of the Zodiac seem to love her [misunderstanding it as her being competition vs Tohru winning them over by being genuinely kind].
Despite how poorly she views Tohru, she does not seem to go after her as much despite her warning to her, that she would punish her if she meddled too much.

· Izusu (Rin) Sohma:
As the horse of the Zodiac, Akito has been shown to have very little interaction with the girl prior to Hatsuharu dating her and consummating their relationship. When Akito catches wind of their relationship [Season 2, Episode 18], Izusu confronts Akito and takes the blame for it, telling the God that she was the one who seduced him. It is during this interaction that we see Akito openly saying misogynistic things and expressing her hatred of women with the things she tells Izusu:

"I really do despise women. Brazen, stupid."

"You're always so impassive, but when you want something, you pounce. It's frightening. This is why I despise women, devious creatures."

As a result of the confession, Akito pushed Izusu out of a second story window, causing the girl to be in the hospital for a long period of time.  Despite being possessive of all members of the Zodiac, Akito makes it clear that she only tolerates the women, saying to Izusu "You're only here to make the numbers match up. I don't want you."

Another important interaction the two have is later on in the series, where Izusu is determined to break the curse by all means. She is caught trespassing near Akito's home, and approached by Ren who is determined to use anyone to get to Akito. She lied to Izusu, telling her that if she takes a box that Akito has, she will tell her how to break the curse. Izusu does this and is caught by Akito, being imprisoned in the house the cat of the Zodiac is to be locked away. Here, she deliberately cuts her hair and threatens to hurt Hatsuharu if she does not comply.

· Kagura Sohma:
The boar of the family, Kagura seems to be spared completely of Akito's verbal and physical abuse. It seems that this is possible because Akito refuses to engage with the women of the Zodiac unless forced to, and generally avoids other women. One can assume Kagura has done nothing to enrage Akito [despite the fact that she used to openly say she was in love with Kyo].

· Kisa Sohma:
Being the youngest member of the Zodiac, the tiger, Kisa has been a victim of Akito's physical violence. Ritsu confessed his feelings for Kisa to Akito, and Akito beat the girl up in response to the point where she had to be in the hospital for two weeks. After this, they are not shown to interact much outside of Akito telling her [and the group she was with] that she was happy to see them and that she loved them. It can be assumed she feels the same way about Kisa as she does Izusu, that she is just there to make the numbers even.

Negative Trait: Possessive

"I am the masters of their hearts and souls. They belong to me."

As the God of the Zodiac, respected by centuries of supernatural bonds that bind all members with the curse to Akito, she seems to be almost possessed by the spirit of the God. With this possession, she is shown to have an emotional and spiritual connection with these members. Upon her conception, the oldest members of the Zodiac were visited by her in a dream, saying she would be with them very soon. They all woke up in tears and ran to Ren, reaching out to great the new God. In present day, all new members of the Zodiac were moved to tears when they first met Akito, and in return Akito was always compelled to tell them she loved them, and would be there just for them.

Whether a result of this bond, the fear of being alone, or a combination of her father telling her she was special/born to be loved, Akito has a very possessive personality. She views all members of the Zodiac through a warped sense of love- she views them all as individuals who were born to love her, rise each day to serve her, and that they are her property to do with as she pleases. In the same conversation Akito has with Izusu [that led to her being pushed out the window], Akito asks her "Attempting to take one of my possessions for your own?"

The three Zodiac members she is the most closest to and is shown to have the most possessive relationships with are:

· Shigure Sohma

"You deny your femineity, and yet you're always ready to use it as a weapon against me".

One of the most difficult and interesting relationships Akito has, is that with Shigure, the dog of the Zodiac. Like the older members of the Zodiac, he also had a dream about Akito's birth and the reincarnation of the new God. However, unlike the others who felt a simple sense of happiness about it, Shigure directly expressed he was in love with the God and wanted her all for himself, despite being a child. When Akito was born, Shigure decided to keep her real gender a secret and often fawned over her as she grew up. All of her temper tantrums were usually handled by him, and Yuki recalls seeing Shigure often comforting her and holding her closely. Around the same time, before Kureno's curse broke, Akito asked Shigure if he loved her. Shigure, with a camellia flower in hand, confessed that she was always on his mind and that he loved her more than anything in the world. To Shigure, this was a confession of deep and profound love, but possibly due to their large age gap [nearly eight years], Akito interpreted this as affirmation that as the dog of the of the Zodiac, he was loyal to her. That their love was held up strongly by the bond, but that it was not a romantic love, and he belonged to her as another possession.

This is important because it leads to a series of misunderstandings between the two as the series progresses. When Shigure finds out that Akito is having a sexual relationship with Kureno [not understand that she did it as a means to keep him around vs being genuinely in love with him], he sleeps with Akito's mother and brags about it to her. As Shigure is someone Akito does not quite physically abuse or mistreat, all she did was kick him from the main estate, forcing him to live on the 'outside'. Since then, she is under the assumption that he is in love with her mother. Despite this assumption, she is shown asking why he isn't being as nice to her, seeming to forgive their transgression. However, she assumes he isn't as loving to her as he was because he is in love with her mother.

This all comes to a head around season 3, episode 2 where the two have a jealous confrontation regarding Shigure attending a family dinner with a coworker. Waiting for her in her room, Shigure comments on how masculine Akito looks. They both argue about how Shigure truly doesn't love Akito, how he slept with her mother, and how Shigure only did that as revenge because she was sleeping with Kureno. It is in this instance where Akito reaffirms that as God, all members of the Zodiac are her possessions, and she is free to do with them as she pleases.

Once he openly admits and affirms that the only one he truly loves is her, they both have sexual relations. It is unknown if they had been intimate in the past, but subtle hints in the series may indicate that it was possible. He is also the only member of the Zodiac who openly defies her and she doesn't do much about it because although she does view him as her property, she is also afraid of him never loving her/leaving her. She also seems to have a highly tense relationship with him due to the fact that he won't submit and tell her that he belongs only to her.

However she does eventually relent around Season 3, Episode 5 where Kureno asks her [after a bad mental breakdown] if she is going to let him leave without protest. She states she is done with him and doesn't need him. Whether these are her true feelings is unknown.

· Yuki Sohma
As the rat of the Zodiac, Yuki seems to be Akito's favorite as a result of the story where the rat tricks the cat on missing the banquet, and tricks the ox into becoming the first in the Zodiac because of how stupid he was. To the God, the rat is seen as intelligent, cunning, trickster, and worth of God's favor due to being the closest to God, and similar to her. Yuki was sold at a young age by his mother, as she demeaned him a burden being the second child she had born under the Zodiac curse. When they first met as children, with Akito being five years older, Yuki cried before the God. Akito embraced Yuki and at first treated him rather nicely, but expressed annoyance at how sickly he was. Yuki comments that Akito already had a bit of a temper during that point, but things became darker when Kureno's curse broke (at this point, Akito's father had passed and hadn't quite affected her as much yet).

When the curse broke for Kureno, it seemed Yuki, due to proximity, became Akito's victim of the majority of her physical and verbal abuse. She was still a child when this began, and due to them spending the majority of the time together, she would have her mental breakdowns before him. She would verbally assault him on a near daily basis, reminding him that he was sold to her, that he was worthless unlike her, that the rat is despised by everyone, and that the only one who cared about him was her. He was kept isolated by Akito, gaslighted into believing she was his only source of love and comfort, and his parents were okay with this due to a financial incentive. She would openly tell him he belonged to her, and it was her right to do what she wanted with him.

Despite spending much time together, Yuki was unaware that she was really a girl and not a boy. Due to how close Akito and Yuki were, Yuki's relationship with Kyo was very strained and tense for many years. Although Yuki has found a way to escape being by Akito's side at all times, she often demands he visits her and punishes him when he doesn't or speaks back to her.

· Kureno Sohma
Being one of the oldest of the Zodiac, Kureno was around sixteen years old when years old when his curse broke. He is about four years older than Akito, so when Akito was a child, he often took on a brotherly role with her. He is shown to have played with her as a child and had a relatively normal relationship with her. Things began to change when the curse broke. As the God of the Zodiac, the bonds Akito has with the other members are only held up by the curse. Without the curse, there would be nothing to keep Kureno around. Akito's reaction to Kureno's curse is one of the few times we see her in a truly vulnerable and desperate situation. She broke down before him, crying and pleading for him to not leave her. This was the start of Akito's behavior and abusive becoming significantly worse.

The way Kureno treated Akito could be the reason why she became worse over time. He became an enabler, and despite not needing to have sex with her to stay, he decided to engage in a sexual relationship with her. The relationship became extremely toxic as Akito grew older and she became extremely controlling of him, possessive, isolating him, forbidding him from speaking to anyone else, and replacing him with Yuki as the person who is by her side most of the time. Once he agreed to remain by her side, Akito began to control him to the point where she noticed every little thing he did. If he did something as simple as open the door when he was in the same room as her, she would immediately ask him where he was going. He was not allowed to leave the estate without her permission, and was rarely seen or spoken to by any of the other Zodiac members. During their yearly New Year's traditional gathering, he is shown to be at her side at all times, never speaking.

In return, Kureno is shown to resent Akito, wanting to escape the relationship, but at the same time enabling her abusive behavior. Instead of stepping in to stop her from attacking anyone or being verbally abusive, he often scolds her instead as if she were a child. It could be interpreted that he took on the role of her father with comments made by Shigure to him. He also has mentioned that he views her as a hurt child who is deeply wounded, and remains by her side out of a sense of obligation/guilt towards the others whose curse has not broken. Despite how controlling Akito is, it seems Kureno is one of the few characters in the series who can get away with more than others as he is seen occasionally helping other members of the Zodiac without punishment. She is shown to be more docile with him, knowing that if she pushes him too far, he can leave due to not being bonded to her by the curse. In a moment before becoming intimate, she says to him that she doesn't always mean what she says, and that what she says isn't always what she is thinking.

As the series shows that Shigure was kicked out of the Sohma estate around the same time he found out Akito was sleeping with Kureno, and it is shown he had been kicked out at least 1-2 years prior to the start of the series, it is truly unknown when Akito began to be intimate with Kureno. Shigure found out, but it isn't clear if it was the first time they had been intimate or if they already had been intimate. If she had used sex as a means of keeping him bonded to her, it is possible the affair began when she was a minor.

Powers and Abilities:

Despite being born as 'God' of the Zodiac, the only real power she seems to posses is having deep, spiritual bonds with those born under the Zodiac. She is able to command them to her will, despite their objections. They seem to be unable to disobey her and are easily intimidated by her [with the exception of Shigure, the dog], and are unable to leave her side until their curse is broken. She is also able to freely embrace them, regardless of gender, without them transforming into their prospective animal.

One ability she surprisingly has is her abnormal strength despite her height, frailness, and weak health. She is shown choking her mother and body slamming her through several doors until she tossed her out into the patio. Her mother is significantly taller than her and far more heavier, but it is unknown if she only has this strength when she is very angry.

Dominant Sample

( it was unfair that akito had to do so much for herself in a place like this. despite ending up on the dominant side of things, not having kureno by her side to absorb her tantrums, do tasks for her, and provide pleasure for her, was a debilitating condition. she often spent most of the day sulking in her room, wishing and hoping the world around her would bend and shape itself to her will. eventually though, she understood that she had to submit to the monthly tasks, in order to survive in a place like this. the only bit of control she had left was her identity-

no matter what, she would still continue presenting as a man. it was the last shred of power she had, being alone here and no longer being a god. there were no bonds here, at least not real ones like the ones she had with her precious zodiac.

in an effort to survive, akito sought out submissives that clearly were desperate. people she could have some dominance over and people who would owe her eventually for her gracious kindness. the men were difficult, they often wanted to return the favor or see what she was hiding but women were much easier. they fell for what they thought was a handsome, but shorter man. she flirted with them easily, charming them and seducing at least one of them. she absolutely loathed doing this, hated them and how easy they could be, but it was the only way.

this partner would often allow her to dominate the situation, pleasuring them and driving them mad with orgasm. they yearned for a closer bond with akito, but akito would simply demean them during their encounters, calling them a pretty little whore or saying how easy they were for letting akito seduce them. it was a disgusting thing she had to partake in, but she knew in the end it was the only way to survive. she had never really put in much effort towards anything beyond just living, so this was her greatest feat yet.

--

it had been another day where akito's decision to step out into the city, would lead her down the path of lust. she absolutely hated it- what was sex if it was just sex? it was pointless really. if she wasn't using it to dominate and keep her precious zodiac members in line, it made no sense. yet, through forces outside of her control, she was forced to to play this world's little game.

aphrodisiacs seemed to be a popular choice around here, and even if she did her best to eat as little as possible or avoid drinking suspicious drinks, eventually the air she inhaled would betray her too. this time it made her violently want to have release, but unfortunately there had not been anyone who knew her secret just yet. she felt she couldn't trust these people, especially since she couldn't control them.

so she ran from the city, calling up the last submissive she had been with. she was a pretty little thing, eager to please, and had no contract with anyone. akito suspected she wanted akito to contract her, but that wasn't something she would give into. at least not until she truly had to.

when the two finally met up, akito forced herself on the other, a violent kiss closing the gap. she refused to give into her primal urges, even if it hurt her body so much. the hatred she had for women and not being in control overtook her mind- her self pleasure was just a burden and a reminder of her womanhood. these were the thoughts that swelled her mind as she practically ripped whatever the girl had on and littered her body with bites and scratches. eventually she got down towards her most tender spot and began to eat as if she had never eaten before.

--

when the act was finally done, and akito had gone into the bathroom to take care of herself, she stepped out in a more relaxed state. the submissive had been waiting for her in bed, a contract in hand. she began telling akito that her duty as a dominant was to care for her as a submissive and that they should be contracted so that the girl would have more freedom here. she mentioned this would be a wonderful way to be bonded to each other, a word that set akito's fury into full force. )

You know nothing about what a real bond is, you disgusting filthy girl!

A real bond is one a God has with its subjects. What I had.... Before being dragged to this ridiculous place. You think a piece of paper and a contract is enough?

( she had done her best to avoid throwing a temper tantrum, but in this moment the cumulation of arriving after momiji's bond broke, her mother threatening her with a knife, and being here alone was too much for her. akito snapped and began to throw whatever she could find at the girl, tearing up the room in the process. her voice was loud and thunderous, and was clearly frightening the submissive. she was the target of all of akito's rage and hatred for this place and what it symbolized. the loss of control. )

You mean nothing to me, and something like this would never change that. You are worthless to me.

( eventually though, like the broken child she was, she ran out of the room and began to cry. she called out for kureno, for hatori, and finally for her father. she missed him dearly and she wished he was still by her side, giving her the love she deserved. she knew this would come back to get her- she couldn't go around sleeping around uncontracted for very long and eventually, someone had to find out her secret.

for now, she decided to pretend that the device she had with her wouldn't know the truth of her behavior. she would close her eyes and wake up back home, in her perfect little world.

Submissive Sample
( 'SLUT center' the words radiated like a hot knife being pulled from a flame in akito's eyes. she had failed to meet the monthly quota, refusing to sleep with anyone. her sexuality, gender, and her body were the last shreds of control she had left here. she had been stripped of her god title, of the zodiac members, and of her rich and carefree lifestyle as head of the sohma family. she had no will to survive but pure anger kept her going. anger at this place, at the collar that gripped her neck, and of the events that happened before she arrived.

it was unfair and despicable that someone like her, who had been born to be loved and worshipped was now being forced to submit to someone else. she refused to be treated like an animal, like a worthless creature- the things she had told those in the zodiac who refused to submit to her or went against her. she would never willingly submit to being someone else's possession.

it wasn't easy dragging her to this place. the staff had their hands full with how violent she had gotten, nearly choking them out and brute forcing her way past them. after roughing her up and sedating her, they dragged akito to the place she was standing now before. inside, she had been stripped of all of her clothes and slammed onto an examiner's table as punishment for her behavior. she could hear the doctor subtly say 'ah the one who pretends to be a man', before a nurse sedated her and she fell into a haze, still trying her best to scream her way out of the situation.

when she finally woke up, she had been put back into her suit and told what the next step was. at first her head felt dizzy, then she felt sick but it wasn't the kind of sickness she usually felt back home. it also wasn't the kind of illness her father had- no this was something else.

before she could ask and demand answers for what happened to her, she had been tossed out and told she had a week to resolve her attitude problem. akito wasn't sure what that meant, but on the way back to the dreadful place she was forced to live at, she could feel her body begin to drown in arousal and desire.

she wanted to feel a cock inside of her mouth again.

it was a strange sensation that began to overwhelm her, so much so it drove her to hide behind a pair of bushes on the trail back home. there she fell to the ground, her right index and middle finger going into her mouth. her teeth scrapped along the soft flesh of her finger, as her other hand reached for and tugged on her collar. she closed her eyes and began to think about kureno, but the feeling wasn't right. she had slept with him often, but she never truly loved him or lusted after him. he just became someone she had to sleep with to keep a bond with him after his curse had broken. sex with him served a purpose, and only one purpose. it had nothing to do with pleasure or romance. it had everything to do with control.

she remained like this, fetal and burning with passion when suddenly an image came before her. shigure.

the man she hated so much with her entire soul, how could she be lusting after him at this time? he had betrayed her in the most humiliating manner imaginable, sleeping with her mother as a way to punish her. he was unkind to her, refusing her absolute devotion and love and she felt weak against him. despite what he did, she couldn't do anything more than to kick him out of the estate.

yet she wanted him so badly, with all of her soul. she wanted the love she had been promised from him at a young age, and most of all, she wanted to possess him. the last time they were intimate, she had given in too much. she used her femineity as a weapon to keep him around, but it wasn't what she wanted. she lacked control in that situation and akito absolutely hated it.

biting down on her fingers, she began to slip her hand down her pants suit and began to rub against her folds. she thought about him, his kisses, indignant stare, the way he taunted her, the way he demanded she pleasure him first, and the way she couldn't get him to submit to her. with a furious growl, she found herself riding out a short but satisfying enough orgasm. soon though, the rage overcame whatever lust she had been feeling and she felt unsatisfied. she felt disgusting that she gave into such a feminine thing.

this wasn't good enough, she needed to actually go out and pleasure someone else. it was a painful defeat as she rose up from the ground and wiped her hand inside of her pocket. this place would not be the end of her reign of control, it could never be. her bonds with the zodiac members were too powerful, and eventually they would all be here or she would return to them. at least she hoped for that, as she walked back to her miserable home. )
